Privacy policy
Last updated November 2026
This policy explains how Energent India ("we", "us"), which operates WattAudit at audit.energentindia.com, processes your personal data. We act as a Data Fiduciary under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act") and the rules made under it.
1. Data we collect
- Account details: name, email address, phone number, company or firm name, city, and your role (client or auditor).
- Auditor KYC: firm name, GST number, BEE certification number, a copy of your certificate, and service area.
- Site and audit data: site address, sector, connected load, operating hours, equipment details, checklist readings and notes.
- Electricity bills: bill copies and their contents, including consumer number, tariff category, units, demand, power factor and charges.
- Photos and documents: site and equipment photos, nameplate photos, claim evidence, letters and replies.
- Voice recordings: if an auditor uses voice notes, the recording is transcribed and not stored as audio.
- Contact form messages and in-app questions you ask about your report.
- Usage data: sign-in events, pages opened (for example, when you open your report), device and browser information.
2. Why we use it
- To create your account and verify auditors before they are assigned work.
- To carry out the energy audit you requested and produce your savings report.
- To analyse your bills, detect possible billing errors and prepare complaints or claims you ask us to pursue.
- To send you service notifications about your audit or claim.
- To improve the platform, prevent misuse, and meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
We process your data on the basis of your consent, given when you create an account or submit a form, and for legitimate uses permitted by Section 7 of the DPDP Act. We do not sell your personal data.
3. Automated tools
We use AI tools to read bills and nameplates, transcribe voice notes and draft text. Phone numbers and email addresses are masked before text is sent to these tools. AI output is always reviewed by a person before it is used, and money and savings figures are calculated by our own software, not by AI.
4. Who we share it with
- The auditor assigned to your audit, and our review team.
- Your DISCOM, vendor, CGRF or Ombudsman — only for a claim you ask us to file.
- Service providers who host our platform, send email and run AI processing, under contracts that require them to protect your data.
- Authorities, where required by law.
5. Storage, security and retention
Data is stored in access-controlled systems. Bills, photos and KYC documents are kept in private storage and opened only through short-lived links. We keep:
- Account and audit records for as long as your account is active, and up to 3 years afterwards for service history.
- Claim case files until the claim is closed, plus the period needed to defend or pursue it.
- Invoices and tax records for 8 years, as required by Indian tax law.
- Contact form messages for up to 2 years.
When data is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.
6. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you can:
- Ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is used.
- Ask us to correct, complete, update or erase your data.
- Withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing already done, and we may then be unable to continue the service.
- Nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity.
- Raise a grievance with us, and if unresolved, complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
7. Children
WattAudit is not meant for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect children's data.
